Welcome to Flowers on Film

Discover a unique digital library of flower-focused films and tutorials created by the Aesme School of Flowers.

We are passionate about making well researched and beautifully edited courses for an online community of flower lovers and curious minds. It may seem slightly at odds with the tactile nature of flower arranging to transpose it digitally, but our online courses are deeply immersive - inspirational, educational and meditative - with viewers invited into the creative process, from harvesting flowers in the garden to the step-by-step process of designing in the studio.

Our films are accessible on all devices including iOS, Android, MACs, PCs and streaming media boxes such as Apple TV.

For a short time, allow yourself to feel totally transported - find yourself amongst dew-drenched leaves, watching the wind ripple through backlit grasses, witnessing the precise movements of a hand, an arrangement slowly and deliberately assembled...

Installations

This course will give you the confidence to design and build naturalistic, large-scale installation pieces without the use of floral foam. Using the structure and forms of botanical materials you will learn how to think from the ground up and how to construct effective, well-balanced designs that truly evoke the way plants naturally behave in the garden, the hedgerow and the surrounding landscape.

Elements of Design

Naturalistic floral design is about instinct and individual expression - it is not about following the rules or trying to achieve perfection. That being said, having a solid knowledge of each of the seven Elements of Design - the fundamental keystones to all artistic work - is invaluable. Without this, it can be all too easy to overwork flower arrangements, repeat the same mistakes or simply feel overwhelmed in knowing where to start. A combination of design theory and a close observation of the natural world will allow you to achieve your creative potential as a florist and designer.
